How does Candomblé happen in Practices of Dress: On what dress is able to be and to do.

My interest in the reciprocal relation between dress practices and their wearers has evolved from the fieldwork I did for my MA thesis on dress practices in the Afro-Brazilian religion of Candomblé. Here I explored the significance of clothing in a religious context from a phenomenological perspective, following the idea that the body is the primary site of experience and perception in getting to know the world. In Candomblé, clothing plays a central role in actively contributing to a certain mode for the wearer. For example, the weight of the multiple necklaces, worn by the newly initiated, ensures the wearer to bow its head, which makes for a humble posture.
